On October 28, 2014, Pomona Police Officer Shaun Diamond participated as a member of a multi-agency team serving a search warrant in the city of San Gabriel. Officer Diamond was the breach officer as the team attempted to make entry into the home in the 100 block of San Marino Avenue in San Gabriel.
As the team penetrated the storm door, the subject inside opened the main door and fired a single round from a shotgun. Pellets struck Officer Diamond in the back of the neck. Other officers immediately pulled Officer Diamond to a safe location and transported him to Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena. He died there early the following morning.
The suspect was taken into custody at the scene and charged with murder of a police officer with special circumstances.
Officer Diamond, 45, previously served with the Los Angeles Police Department and Montebello Police Department. He was an eight-year veteran of the Pomona Police Department. He is survived by his son, Kelly, and daughter, Margo.
