Officer Daniel Ryan Ackerman

We Remember and Honor Buena Park Police Officer Daniel Ryan Ackerman, End of Watch (EOW) July 30, 2011, Duty Related Illness During SWAT Training

On July 29, 2011, around 8:15 in the morning, Buena Park SWAT Officer Daniel Ryan Ackerman was taking part in a challenging physical fitness exam required of all SWAT team members. Upon completion of the test, which he passed well within the required time, he became disoriented and a doctor on the scene noted him to be in distress.

He was taken to nearby St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton. Initially, his condition appeared to be improving, but overnight he took a turn for the worse. Doctors found internal bleeding and his veins began to collapse.  He died at 3:40 a.m. the next morning.

Buena Park AckermanDan Ackerman, 31, only recently became a SWAT team member.  He began his career with the Buena Park Police Department as an explorer in 1995. In 2001 he was hired as a reserve officer and in 2005 he became a full-time officer.  At the time of his death he worked as a detective on the Regional Narcotics Suppression Program in addition to his duties with SWAT.

Officer Ackerman was survived by his mother, sister, and two-year-old daughter, Avery.
